Orion takes inspiration from the other Inazuma Eleven seasons, every one of them if you want to analyze every little frame, and this was a nice idea. All right, so those watching Orion will directly notice several things. I also make a handful of references to the other installments of Inazuma Eleven in this review to try and emphasize my point. I waited until I watched every episode of this to know for sure whether or not I would be certain of my decision, and having watched all 49 episodes I can say this with no regret: I am really disappointed with what Orion has become. It hurts, as a big Inazuma Eleven fan who watched the franchise ever since the first season of Inazuma Eleven was still airing, to give such a low rating for an Inazuma Eleven franchise. His magical abilities, including his flight and ice powers, are contained in his crown, and he is therefore powerless without it. As his name suggests, Ice King is also his title, announcing himself as King of Ice. His typical misdeed is to kidnap a princess and force her to marry him, which Finn and Jake foil every time. The Ice King (formerly Simon Petrikov) is the central antagonist (often unintentionally) of Adventure Time. This week I was able to visit the BVE expo to have a look for the next generation of video mixing and streaming equipment for our media block. There was plenty on show, including an interesting talk on using drones in TV production that drew quite a crowd! In fact, it’s quite watchable despite being at least 20 minutes too long. Yet despite all its occasionally entertaining bluster and '90s-era crime movie braggadocio, this is a surprisingly shallow take on a much more cagey and amoral original. There’s far more violence in this iteration of “SuperFly” and it has a budget Parks and company couldn’t match in their wildest dreams. But this is mostly a faithful adaptation, bigger yet not better. Now and then, there is a minor bend in the road plotwise-a character is used for a different purpose, for example, and there are more villains to combat. Director X’s remake of “SuperFly” makes the title adjective one word but generally sticks to the Fenty’s story. |
